Static IP setup for Indian broker APIs
From 1 April 2026, Indian brokers accept API orders only from an IP address you have registered with them. The rules are similar but not the same: how many IPs you can add, how often you can change them, which calls are checked, and whether IPv6 works. Pick your broker for the details and the code.
Zerodha Kite Connect
Zerodha Kite Connect accepts API orders only from a whitelisted IP. The rules, IPv4 or IPv6, where to add the IP, and Python code to route orders through it.Upstox API
Upstox accepts API orders only from your registered static IP. The rules, IPv4 or IPv6, where to add the IP, and the Python SDK setup that avoids 407 errors.Angel One SmartAPI
Angel One SmartAPI accepts orders only from your registered static IP, and only IPv4 for now. The rules, how to register the IP, and the Python setup.Fyers API
Fyers accepts API orders only from the static IP on your Algo trading app. How the new app works, IPv4 or IPv6, and the Python setup for fyers-apiv3.Flattrade Pi API
Flattrade needs a static IP to create an API key, and both the token and orders must come from it. The rules, IPv4 or IPv6, and the NorenRestApiPy proxy setup. The same three steps for every broker
- Get one fixed public IP that only you use. A home connection that changes its address after a router restart won't do, and many Jio and Airtel lines sit behind CGNAT, so the address you see in the router isn't the one the broker sees.
- Register it in your broker's developer console. Most brokers let you change it only once a week, so copy the address exactly.
- Send your order calls through it. Point your broker SDK at the fixed IP. Data calls can usually stay on your normal connection.
Why brokers ask for this is covered in SEBI's static IP rule for algo trading. To check what address your machine shows right now, use What's my IP.
Quick comparison
| Broker | IPs you can register | Changes | IPv6 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Zerodha | 1 primary + 1 secondary | Once a calendar week | Yes, per Zerodha |
| Upstox | 1 primary + 1 secondary | Once a calendar week | Yes, per Upstox |
| Angel One | 1 primary + 1 optional backup | Once a calendar week | No, IPv4 only for now |
| Fyers | Set on the Algo trading app | Not stated | Worked in our testing |
| Flattrade | 1 primary + 1 backup | Once a calendar week | Not stated; API host has IPv6 |
Brokers change these rules, so confirm in your broker's console before you rely on them. For brokers not listed here, see which Indian brokers support IPv6.
Static IP by broker: FAQs
Can I use one static IP for two brokers?
Nothing in the broker rules we checked stops it. Each broker's one-IP-per-client rule applies within that broker, so the same dedicated IP can be registered with, say, Zerodha and Upstox, as long as it is yours and not shared with other people. If in doubt, ask your broker.
Can my family share my static IP?
Most brokers allow family members (spouse, dependent children and dependent parents) to share one IP, usually after a declaration or written request. Each broker has its own process, so check with yours. Sharing outside the family can get the API account suspended.
IPv6 or IPv4?
IPv6 is cheaper (₹50 a month against ₹200 at TrueIP, plus GST) and works where the broker accepts it, such as Zerodha and Upstox. Angel One accepts only IPv4 for now. If you trade through several brokers and one of them is IPv4-only, an IPv4 address covers all of them.
