A static IP for the GST e-invoice API. Whitelisted once, kept.
Direct access to NIC's e-invoice system works only from Indian static IPs that NIC has whitelisted, and changing them later is slow. TrueIP gives your integration a dedicated IPv4 in Mumbai that stays the same.
Why the IP matters more for e-invoicing.
Most APIs let you edit an allowlist in a dashboard. NIC's direct e-invoice access doesn't work like that. You test in the sandbox, send in a test report, and production access is given after NIC checks it. As part of that, NIC whitelists a maximum of four Indian public static IPs for you, and its onboarding page says verification and whitelisting can take four to five days.
It also warns that once IPs are whitelisted, changing them takes more time. So if production calls leave from a cloud instance whose outbound address can change, or from an office line that the ISP renumbers, you're looking at failed IRN generation and another round of paperwork before invoices flow again.
Direct access is meant for large taxpayers above NIC's turnover threshold, and for the GSPs and ASPs that connect on behalf of many businesses. If you file through a GSP's app or API, the GSP usually handles the connection to NIC, and you probably don't need your own static IP for this. Ask your GSP before buying one.
NIC's e-way bill API manual has the same expectation. The calling system should have a static IP address, entered when you register for API access.
Get the IP ready before you apply.
- 01
Get a dedicated IPv4
Sign up and pay online. The Mumbai IP is assigned in minutes, with its own host, port, username and password.
- 02
List it in your NIC application
Give it as one of your static IPs when you apply for production access. NIC allows up to four, so production and a standby server can each have one.
- 03
Route the API client through it
Set the proxy on the client that calls the IRP, then run curl -x http://USER:PASS@HOST:PORT https://ifconfig.co on that server to confirm the address.
Route the IRP calls. Keep the rest local.
The e-invoice API is plain HTTPS, so it goes through an HTTP proxy without any change to the payload or the encryption. Set the proxy on the client that talks to NIC and nothing else.
- ✓ Indian IP address, as NIC asks for
- ✓ Works with any language your ERP connector is written in
- ✓ One IP per server if you whitelist more than one
- ✓ Credentials for every IP downloadable as CSV
What a static IP for e-invoicing gives you.
An Indian IPv4, only yours
A dedicated address in Mumbai reserved for your account. It's never shared with another customer and never rotated, which is what a whitelist that's slow to change needs.
Same IP on renewal
Renew on time and the address never changes, so there's no new request to NIC and no gap in IRN generation.
Per-IP credentials
Each IP has its own host, port, username and password, so production and standby stay separate.
Encrypted end to end
Calls to the IRP stay TLS encrypted through the proxy. We see a destination host, never invoice data or credentials.
GST invoice for your ITC
Every payment comes with a GST invoice in your company's name once you add your GSTIN in the portal.
Priced per IP. IPv4 for NIC.
NIC's onboarding page asks for Indian static IPs and doesn't mention IPv6, so IPv4 is the plan to pick.

E-invoice API questions.
Will the IP ever change?
No. The address stays the same for your whole term and on every renewal. That matters here because NIC says changing whitelisted IPs takes time.
Do I get a GST invoice?
Yes, on every payment. IPv4 is ₹200 + 18% GST, so ₹236 a month. Add your GSTIN and billing address in the portal and the invoice is issued in your company's name.
Is my data visible to you?
No. Your connection to the e-invoice API is TLS encrypted end to end. We see encrypted traffic and the destination host, not invoice data, GSTINs or credentials. Breaking TLS would trigger a certificate error, so it can't happen silently.
IPv4 or IPv6 for this?
IPv4. NIC asks for Indian static IP addresses and doesn't say IPv6 is accepted, so don't count on it.
I file through a GSP. Do I need this?
Usually not. When you use a GSP's app or API, the GSP connects to NIC and handles that whitelisting on its side. Check with your GSP first. You need your own static IP for direct NIC access, or if you are the GSP or ASP.
Is the IP in India?
Yes. TrueIP's node is in Mumbai and the addresses come from TrueIP's own routed range, so NIC sees an Indian IP.
How many IPs can I whitelist with NIC?
NIC's onboarding page says a maximum of four. A sensible setup is one for production and one for a standby server.

GST e-invoice API access: why integrators need a fixed IP
Direct NIC e-invoice API access works only from whitelisted Indian static IPs. Who needs one, how many you can register, and why changing them is slow. Why your API says "IP not whitelisted" and how to fix it for good
Your API key is fine but every call fails with "IP not whitelisted". Here's how to find the address the API sees, why it changed, and how to stop it changing.IPv4 vs IPv6 for whitelisting: which one will your platform accept?
