A dedicated static IP for algo trading

A static IP for algo trading is a fixed address you whitelist once with your broker, so your API orders stay authorised every session. TrueIP gives Indian algo traders a dedicated, SEBI compliant IPv6 static IP, Mumbai-based and yours alone. Free while we grow the network.

What is a static IP for algo trading?

Every device on the internet has an IP address. Most home and mobile connections hand out a dynamic address that changes on its own, sometimes daily. A static IP is the opposite: a fixed address that stays the same for as long as you hold it.

For algo trading that distinction is everything. Indian brokers ask you to whitelist the exact IP your API orders come from. If the address changes, the whitelist breaks and your orders are rejected mid-session. A dedicated static IP keeps that address locked, so you whitelist once and trade without interruption.

Why algo traders need a static IP

Three reasons it is not optional once you trade through an API.

Broker API whitelisting

Brokers authorise orders only from a whitelisted IP. A static address keeps that whitelist valid every session.

SEBI compliance

SEBI's algo framework expects a static, identifiable source IP. A dedicated address meets that requirement out of the box.

Stable, low latency

A datacenter static IP in Mumbai gives consistent sub-2 ms round-trips to broker APIs, not a flaky home line.

Static IP vs VPS for algo trading

These are often confused. A VPS is a remote machine you run your strategy code on. A static IP is just a fixed address to whitelist. Many traders rent a whole VPS only to get its static address, which is far more than they need.

If you run your algo on your own machine and only need a stable, whitelist-ready address to satisfy broker rules, a dedicated static IP for algo trading is cheaper and simpler than a VPS. With TrueIP you point your client at one address and trade from anywhere.

Common worry

Can a static IP provider see my trades?

No. Your connection to your broker is TLS encrypted end to end, the same encryption that lets you bank on public WiFi safely. Anyone in the network path, including your ISP or us, only sees encrypted traffic and the destination, never the contents.

A dedicated static IP is in fact more secure than a shared connection, because only your IP can touch your whitelisted account. Reading your data would require breaking TLS, which your machine rejects with a certificate error, so it cannot happen quietly.

Static IP for algo trading: FAQs

Do I need a static IP for algo trading?

If you trade through a broker API, almost certainly yes. Most Indian brokers require you to whitelist the IP address your orders come from, and SEBI's algo framework expects a static, identifiable source. A dynamic home IP changes without warning and breaks the whitelist, so a dedicated static IP for algo trading keeps your connection authorised at all times.

Is a static IP for algo trading SEBI compliant?

Yes. A dedicated static IP is exactly what SEBI's static-IP requirement for algo trading asks for. TrueIP assigns one isolated address per account from our own routed block, so it is whitelist-ready and SEBI compliant with nothing extra to configure.

How much does a static IP for algo trading cost?

TrueIP provides a dedicated IPv6 static IP for free while we grow the network. If your broker still requires IPv4, we provide that at cost, around 250 rupees per month with no markup. Most providers charge 200 rupees and more per month for IPv6 that should not cost that much.

Is IPv6 fine for a trading static IP, or do I need IPv4?

IPv6 works with most modern broker APIs and is what lets us offer the address for free. A few platforms still accept only IPv4. For those, TrueIP provides a dedicated IPv4 at cost. Either way you get one static, dedicated address to whitelist.

Can the provider see my trades if they route through the static IP?

No. Your connection to your broker is TLS encrypted end to end. Anyone in the network path, including your ISP or us, sees only encrypted traffic and the destination, never the contents. A dedicated static IP is more secure than a shared connection, because only your IP can touch your whitelisted account.

Static IP or VPS for algo trading: which do I need?

They solve different problems. A VPS gives you a machine to run code on. A static IP gives you a fixed, whitelist-ready address. If you only need a stable address to satisfy broker whitelisting and SEBI rules, a dedicated static IP is cheaper and simpler than renting a whole VPS.
